back with a focus on the hard drugs. Addictive drugs like heroin, crystal
meth and cocaine are more and more common on high school campuses around
the central coast. What are teens getting exposed to, and what does each
drug actually do to your body? Hear from recovery counselors, teens in
rehab, and other everyday kids trying to navigate their way through the
reality of heard drugs.

Interview and live music with Tenores de Oniferi from Sardinia. Small-group polyphonic singing in Sardinia, rooted in the pastoral world of the Italian island, is a rich tradition dating back thousands of years. Four male voices, a soloist singing the melody, and three harmony parts sung in a highly nasal manner, combine for a music filled with harmonies and overtones, sometimes with sung poetry improvised on the spot.

Host Gypsy Flores interviews the great singer of Fado, Mariza. Born in Mozambique and raised in Portugal, she has been performing fado since the age of five, when, before she could read the lyrics, her father sketched little cartoons to help her remember them. Now she's being credited with reinventing the form.

KUSP's Rachel Anne Goodman produced this spot that examines how news of violence in the world can affect the mental health, not just of those directly affected by the violence, but even by people who just hear about it. It's part of KUSP's focus this week on "violence as a community health issue," and you can hear it at 6:33 and 8:33am during our broadcast of Morning Edition.

Find out what the people are saying about KUSP. New York Times best selling author Caroline Myss was in Santa Cruz recently to discuss her book Sacred Contracts. Presented by Gateways Books, she spoke on January 27th at The 1st Congeregational Church in Santa Cruz before a full house.

Congresswoman Barbara Lee's speech in Santa Cruz.  The speech was organized by The Santa Cruz Resource Center for Nonviolence.

2002 is KUSP Radio's 30th birthday year.  In this one hour show, you can hear the voices and opinions of some of the hundreds of volunteer programmers who have dedicated their skills and energy to this unique station since its beginnings in a store room at the back of a restaurant.  Open our time capsule, condensing 30 years into an hour.

KUSP presents a special series examining teen pregnancy in our area.  What information do teens have, and what pressures do they face?  What influences teens' sexual attitudes and behavior?   You'll hear directly from high school students, teen mothers, peer counselors, and others in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties.  The series was produced and hosted by KUSP's Rachel Anne Goodman.
