Tonight's program is devoted to 3 landmark jazz recording sessions from this date in history. Fifty years ago today, the Miles Davis Quintet with John Coltrane made its recording debut for the Columbia label. We hear the released session in its entirety. One year later, the same quintet recorded material for the Prestige label, who released the music as part of the Miles Davis albums Cookin', Steamin', Workin', and Relaxin'. On October 26, 1960 the John Coltrane Quartet recorded 6 songs for the Atlantic label, who released them on the albums My Favorite Things and Coltrane's Sound.
