Today’s program is dedicated to Elvin Jones, who died on May 18, 2004 at age 76.  Jones was one of the most important drummers in jazz history, and he leaves a large and wide-ranging discography.  He was an integral part of the landmark John Coltrane Quartet from 1960 through 1965.  He led his own groups on recordings and on world tours since then.  Anyone who saw and heard him perform knows how larger than life he seemed.  Elvin Jones was a warm and caring human being who will be dearly missed.
