Giant Steps

Today's edition of "GIANT STEPS" includes a birthday tribute to pianist McCoy Tyner, who turned 60 last Friday. Born December 11, 1938, McCoy Tyner played with many jazz greats while still a teenager in his hometown of Philadelphia. He was an integral part of John Coltrane's "classic" quartet from 1960-1965. Since then he has flourished as composer, bandleader, and recording artist. He continues to tour, and will perform a solo concert at Kuumbwa Jazz Center in Santa Cruz on February 8, 1999.
