On Site Performing Arts Broadcast Program
Live Music in the KUSP Studios

How I Can Help

On Site Performing Arts Broadcast Program – KUSP is the radio broadcasting partner for many of the Central Coast’s greatest musical organizations. Our broadcasts of events such as the Monterey Jazz Festival, Carmel Bach Festival, and the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music are possible as a result of gifts to KUSP’s On Site Performing Arts Broadcast Program. These funds support the performing artists and recording engineers, and pay for the acquisition and upkeep of the necessary equipment.

In 2005, a grant to this program made it possible for KUSP to purchase a well-equipped remote broadcasting unit once belonging to KFRC in San Francisco. This mobile remote broadcasting vehicle (KUSP’s third since the Performing Arts Program began in the 1970’s) travels to local concert venues and either broadcasts the concerts live or records then for replay at a later date. Through this work, KUSP is able to share the wonderful local and visiting talent with listeners on the Central Coast while supporting the work of these arts organizations.

As part of the On Site Performing Arts Broadcast Program, KUSP recently launched “On the KUSP,” a project that aims to further expand the scope of our musical outreach activities and to provide our listeners with locally produced live performances that complement the diverse mix of musical genres available on KUSP.

Support for the On Site Performing Arts Broadcast Program in 2007-08 is provided in part by the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County and the Fund for the 21st Century and the Patricia J. Boles Fund of the Community Foundation for Monterey County. We need additional funding to continue the program at its present level, including the further development of “On the KUSP.”

Live Music in the KUSP Studios – KUSP hosts a large number of quality visiting musicians each year. Performances are archived and available here. The are also available as podcasts.
